Thule Awarded 'Best Product Design' in Red Dot Award

The dedicated Thule design for an active lifestyle has once again been awarded the prestigious Red Dot Award, this time for the innovative and specially developed kayak carrier Thule K-Guard. Apart from its special design, this is the first kayak carrier ever that can be locked in place, both kayak to carrier and carrier to roof rack.

Kayaks are made to master the forces of water easily and gracefully, but when it comes to transportation outside their element, the situation has been quite different. With hulls in light, sensitive materials and shapes that very quite a bit from one model to another, it has been a true challenge to design a universal kayak carrier that can accommodate these two factors and at the same time provide the safest possible transportation. Thule K-Guard solves all problems, and has become a revolution in its segment. With Thule K-Guard, kayak enthusiasts can transport their kayak faster, safer and easier.

The prestigious Red Dot Award has been acknowledging innovative and good design since 1955, and is presented by the German institute Design Zentrum Nordrhein-Westfalen. The institute receives more than 14,000 entries each year from more than 70 nations, and the awards are divided into three categories;

Product design, Communication design and Design concept.

Thule K-Guard won the award in the Product Design category, where 4,515 products had been entered and were examined by 30 international judges. The jury tests and evaluates all products in Essen, Germany.

Last year, the Red Dot jury awarded the Thule SlideBar roof bar. The award for Thule K-Guard manifests Thule's position as a leader in design and innovation.
