What are the differences between a 598 ProRide and a 591 ProRide?

The Thule 598 ProRide and the Thule 591 ProRide are both roof-mounted bike racks designed to securely transport bicycles on the roof of a vehicle. While they serve a similar purpose, there are a few key differences between the two models.

Design and ease of use -

  • The 598 ProRide features an updated design with some added features for improved usability. It has an integrated torque limiter dial that allows you to control the tightening force, ensuring a secure grip on your bike frame without overtightening
  • The Thule 598 ProRide has wheel straps that cross the wheel rim diagonally for increased wheel stability during transit
  • The 591 ProRide is available in aluminium whilst the 598 model is also available in black in addition to the aluminium version
  • The wheel trays on the 598 ProRide are more substantial and feature a pump buckle action to help secure the wheel tightly, whereas the 591 ProRide uses a pull through buckle to secure the traps
  • The improved wheel tray design on the ProRide 598 allows the wheel strap to be tucked out of the way, behind the tray while the bike is being installed
  • Both ProRide models are designed to be reversed, so the carrier can be mounted on either side of the vehicle.  The 598 ProRide carrier is the  easier of the two to reverse with less parts needing to be removed to achieve this

  • The 598 ProRide has an extended lower jaw to prevent the bike from accidently falling during the mounting procedure, making it considerably easier to load the bike
  • The 598 ProRide has a softer rubber claw pad that spreads the pressure on the bikes frame, minimising the risk of damage
  • The 591 ProRide has a firmer rubber claw to protect the bike frame

Overall, the Thule 598 ProRide offers some advantages over the 591 ProRide in terms of design, ease of use, and load capacity. However, both models are reliable bike racks that can securely transport your bicycles on the roof of your vehicle. Your choice between the two will depend on your specific needs such as  the type of bike, and of course, your budget as well as the features that matter most to you. Either way, both models are excellent bike carriers.
