Thule 591 Pro Ride
One of the most common questions we hear from our customers for the Thule 591 Pro Ride is:
Will my bike fit?
We have not received a single complaint from any of our customers where they could not fit their bike to the vehicles' roof rack using the Thule ProRide bike rack. All bikes can be fitted be it a child's bike or an adult bike.
One of the many questions we get for bike carriers is Will it damage my brake lines? Having brake lines located on the lower part of the bike frames does not stop you from safely using the ProRide as it will not damage the lines. The down tube gripping arm has a soft rubber protection around the jaws which protects from scratching your bike frame. This also keeps your brake and gear lines safe and secure.
The most common bikes that you see on the road have circular or oval-shaped bike frames. Undoubtedly there are some other new types on the market like double tube. All these types of down tubes can be mounted straight onto the Pro Ride 591, as long the frame widths don't exceed the maximum opening dimension of the jaws.
In most cases bikes with a lower suspension sitting above the paddles on the downward tube will not be able to use a 591 ProRide, instead we recommend using a 561 OutRide.
As shown in the illustration below a circular shaped down tube diameter can be a minimum diameter of 22 mm up to a maximum of 80 mm. Oval-shaped tubes can have a maximum overall dimension of 80 mm wide and 100 mm high.
Double tube frames can be categorized as an oval-shaped frame.

Mounting the bike on to the 591 Pro Ride bike carrier is easy, simply tilt the bike carrier's arm at an upward angle, lift up your bike positioning it on top of the wheel holders. Then turn the locking knob at the bottom of the rack to clamp the grip on to the bike frame.
When placing the frame into the jaws of the arm make sure that the down tube sits centrally so that a tight and correct grip is obtained. (see image below)
Thule 591 Frame Positioning
Rotating the tensioning knob clockwise tightens the arm on the bike frame to ensuring a tight grip. The knob works on a ratchet principle so unless the release button is depressed it cannot come loose. Once the correct grip is obtained the knob can be locked by key for security.
Thule 591 Securing Bike
There is no need to worry when carrying a carbon framed bike with the the Thule ProRide, the rubberized grips on the arm ensures a safe and secure grip on to the frame. As an alternative to the 591 ProRide there is the Thule 561 OutRide. With this bike carrier you can mount the front forks directly into the carrier and place your wheel either in the car with a wheel bag or on the roof with a separate roof mounted wheel holder.
